Lab & Facilities
Overview
The department is well equipped with 12 highly sophisticated laboratories – 8 in Graduate in a model room. These labs in addition to augmenting the theoretical instruction gleaned in the lecture halls also aids the students and faculty in there research activities.

  • UG Lab

Machines lab
The objective of the Electric Machine Laboratory is to impart knowledge about characteristics and behavior of the DC and AC Machines, operation of D.C. machines, transformers, synchronous and asynchronous machines and give them experimental skill, familiarize with the constructional details of different types, working principle and their performance. This lab consists of machines such as DC machine, induction motor, induction generator, alternators, synchronous motors etc., all mounted in industrial type of assembly to give the students industrial feel.Well established with all kinds of motors, generators and latest drives, this is the core lab for the Electrical Engineering branch and the ancillary for ECE, Mechanical, Automobile, Chemical, and Metallurgy branches.

Measurements lab
The aim of the Measurements Laboratory is to reinforce the students with an adequate work experience in the measurement of different quantities and also the expertise in handling the instruments involved. It also helps to train the students in the measurement of displacement, resistance, inductance, torque and angle etc., and to give exposure to AC, DC bridges and transient measurement.

Electronic circuit lab
The objective of Electric Circuits laboratory is to impart hands on experience in verification of circuit laws and theorems, measurement of circuit parameters, study of circuit characteristics and simulation of time response. It also gives practical exposure to the usage of CRO, power sources, function generator etc. This lab entrusts the student to study the characteristics, applications of electronic devices, such as p-n junction diode, Bipolar transistor, Field Effect transistor, LED, LCD & other photo electronic devices and Power control/regulator devices.

Electrical workshop
This laboratory is used to impart practical knowledge to the students about the different wiring schemes, familiarization of megger ,MCB and ELCB. This workshop is established with the basic tools, trainer kits and accessories. The workshop is very imperative not only for the students of Electrical Engineering branch but also for the students of other engineering branches and provides service to all 1st year students.

Microprocessor and Microcontroller lab
This lab offers demanding practical revelation to the students in the field of microprocessor / microcontroller architecture and industrial control through microprocessors and micro controller. This lab equipped with 8085, 8086 processor and 8051 microcontroller trainer kit and its interfacing peripherals, CROs, multimeters etc. to facilitate the experimentation as per curriculum as well as for aiding the project work and enhance their knowledge about the latest trends and technologies.

Integrated Circuits Lab

The lab offers an opportunity for the students to study the characteristics of linear IC’s like Op-Amps, Timers, PLL etc. and Digital IC’s like 74XX series. Application experiments using the above IC’s are also performed in this lab.

Power Electronics lab
The objective of the Power Electronics laboratory is to study the characteristics of switching devices and its applications in rectifier, inverter and choppers. It also acquaint with the application of electronic devices for conversion, control & conditioning of electric power. Further it aids the students to acquire an overview of different types of power semi-conductor devices and to cognize the operation, characteristics and performance parameters of controlled rectifiers, to study the operation, switching techniques, modulation techniques of PWM inverters and to comprehend the harmonic reduction techniques.

Control and Simulation lab
The aim of the Control system laboratory is to provide sound knowledge in the basic concepts of linear control theory and design of control system, to understand the methods of representation of systems and getting their transfer function models, to provide adequate knowledge in the time response of systems and steady state error analysis, to give basic knowledge in obtaining the open loop and closed–loop frequency responses of systems and to understand the concept of stability of control system and methods of stability analysis. It help students to study the compensation design for a control system. The design and implementation of control theory is done using MATLAB software to work out the experiments for open loop and closed loop systems. The lab is well furnished with MATLAB & PSPICE softwares, AC & DC servomotors, synchros, LVDT etc. to conduct various experiments for the III year, EEE students.

Power Electronics lab

It is one of the most developed Laboratories in Electrical Engineering department having various experimental set-ups ranging from Power Electronics & Drives to its various applications in actual Engineering field. It is also accommodated by latest computerized simulation software for performing, designing, performance, measurement, Optimization and Analysis.

Power System Simulation lab
The objective of the Computer Lab for PG is to grow familiarization with different aspects of modeling of components and system and different methods of analysis of power system planning and operation. It aims to fulfill the objectives such as to model steady-state operation of large-scale power systems and to solve the power flow problems using efficient numerical methods suitable for computer simulation, to model and analyze power systems under abnormal (fault) conditions, to model and analyze the dynamics of power system for small-signal and large signal disturbances and design the systems for enhancing stability. It familiariarizes with the preparatory work necessary for meeting the next day’s operation and the various control actions to be implemented on the system to meet the minute-to-minute variation of system load, to get an overview of system operation and control, to understand & model power-frequency dynamics and to design power-frequency controller, to understand & model reactive power-voltage interaction and different methods of control for maintaining voltage profile against varying system.

Energy System Lab
Energy Systems Lab at VCTM aims at advanced study and research in the areas of Energy Conservation, Energy Auditing and alternative energy sources. ES Lab focuses on the various energy conservation aspects of residential and industrial systems such as Pumping system, Air circulation system, Lighting System, Induction motor drive system, AC and Refrigeration system etc. In addition, students familiarize with the operation of some of the important Energy Auditing instruments such as Power Analyzers, Anemometer, Lux meter, Flow measurement meters etc.
